Fashionposium ―A fashion symposium to overcome gender borders―
Date: 3 June 2018 14:00~17:00 Venue: Yasuda Auditorium, Hongo Campus, 7-3-1, Hongo, Bunkyo, Tokyo, 113-0033 Japan Entry: Free
What is the “Fashionposium”?
We recognize that the so-called apparel industry has a common tendency to separate everything into categories or segments, and the most persistent separation is by gender. Why should we wear different clothes according to the gender we were born with? In this symposium, we reconsider the way we think about the “separation” itself in order to overcome gender borders. Our aim is to bring a new perspective to the fashion industry with this experimental event. With the historical and symbolic authority of the University of Tokyo’s Yasuda Auditorium, we will create a new open space for communication. Our show may differ completely from any ordinary fashion show in that even the separation between the show producers/performers and the audience will be removed.
The First fashion event in the history of the Yasuda Auditorium, the University of Tokyo
The highlight of this “fashionposium” is the “fashion-show” organized by blurorange, who are probably the world’s first fashion brand or label specifically for MtF transgender people. They will be launching their new collection and will also coordinate clothing supplied by other brands. At the end of the event, we will invite the audience to participate in the show. This is the first fashion event in the long history of the Yasuda Auditorium.
